Broncos Have Reportedly Released A Pair of Wide Receivers

The Denver Broncos joined the list of teams making tough calls on Monday evening ahead of the NFL’s final cut deadline on Tuesday. The latest roster casualties for the Broncos are two pass-catchers.

According to Mike Klis of 9News, Denver waived wide receivers Tyrie Cleveland and Seth Williams on Monday. Both players are young, having been drafted within the last two years, and couldn’t find a hole to fill in the Broncos’ deep receiving corps.

Cleveland is a rising second-year man, who played in 10 games as a rookie last year. He made six catches for 63 yards in 2020 after arriving in Denver as a seventh-round pick out of Florida.

Williams was an even newer addition to the Broncos, having landed with the team in the sixth-round of this year’s draft. The 6-foot-3 wideout played his college ball at Auburn and reportedly had a strong training camp, but couldn’t beat out Denver’s other receivers to hold onto a roster spot.

Although Cleveland and Williams won’t be a part of the active roster to start the year, Klis reports that both could be candidates to join the Broncos practice squad. That means their time in Denver might not be over just yet and they could get a call-up if anything happens to one of the team’s other wideouts.

Now that Cleveland and Williams have been waived, the Broncos have a clearer picture of their deep pass-catching group. 2020 first-round pick Jerry Jeudy and recently recovered Courtland Sutton lead the way, but the talent doesn’t stop there. KJ Hamler and Tim Patrick are also poised for big years, while tight end Noah Fant looks to continue the bright start to his NFL career.

The Broncos recently found the answer to their question at quarterback, naming Teddy Bridgewater as the Week 1 starter. Third-year man Drew Lock will still be available, but for now the job lies with the veteran, who will need to find different ways to get the ball into the hands of his play-makers.

Denver will get a chance to show off its new quarterback and flashy receiver group on Sept. 12 against the New York Giants.
